Jim Cornette Tells His Side Of The Feud Between Him and Vince Russo

Published by:

It’s no secret that Jim Cornette does not like Vince Russo and Russo has no love loss for Cornette either. The two men have both went back and forth in interviews over the years over the reason they don’t like each other. There feud began in WWF in the mid nineties both men had Vince Mcmahon’s ear, Cornette was a booker and Russo was the head writer. Cornette wanted to go with a more traditional style of wrestling and Russo wanted to do more shock and sex to appeal to the Male 18-35 demographic. Well we all know who Mcmahon sided with on that hence
The Attitude Era. Cornette was out of a job and Russo was the head writer .

With Russo as the head writer in WWE Vince saw record numbers or ratings, sell outs, and more. After a few years at the head of the writing team, Russo took a job with WCW, he told WCW he was the reason that WWF saw there huge success. After a short time in WCW though it was quickly apparent that Russo’s way of doing things was a bit whacky and the ratings showed that. He did not have anyone like Vince Mcmahon to direct and guide him.

Jim Cornette said that Vince Russo doesn’t know wrestling and destroyed the art of wrestling. Russo said that Cornette is out of touch and does not know what today’s modern fan wants. They shoot at each other back and forth a lot. In this interview Jim gives his side from beginning to end the problem he has with Vince Russo. Next article we will try to get Vince Russo’s side on Jim Cornette.

Ronnie Garvin Shoots On Dusty Rhodes

Published by:

“Hands Of Stone” Ronnie Garvin is a former AWA, NWA, and WWF superstar and wrestler. In 1987 Ronnie Garvin had the win of his career by beating the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair for the NWA title. Garvin lost it only two months later at Starrcade 87. The reason why he had such a short stint as champion was due to Crockett wanting Ric Flair to win the title at Starrcade and in order to win it he had to lose it first. So Ronnie was 42 at the time and decided that if he was going to win a major world title now is the time.

After winning the NWA World Title Garvin went on to feud with The Varsity Club with Kevin Sullivan. He turned heel shortly after that by hitting Dusty Rhodes and preventing him from winning Windham’s US Title. Shortly after that Garvin went on to the World Wrestling Federation. Garvin had several encounters with Greg Valentine that made up most of his time in the WWF. Shortly after he started wrestling on the independents.

In this interview with Hannibal TV Ronnie gives his true opinion on Dusty Rhodes. What few people knew about Dusty was that he was the head booker for Crockett Promotions (The National Wrestling Alliance). Ronnie tells us what it was like with Dusty booking the show. If you think its another story of how great Dusty was, your wrong. Ronnie doesn’t have a very high opinion of the way Dusty ran the card. Listen below and tell us what you think.

Steve Austin and Vince Russo Shoots On Damien Sandow

Published by:

Steve Austin like we have said is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Vince Russo is said to be responsible for the greatest time in WWF known as the “The Attitude Era” in the late 90’s when they was competing with WCW in the Monday Night Wars. Many people feel that if it wasn’t for Russo many of the stars that we grew to love and admire wouldn’t have made it as big as they did without Russo’s direction.

Damien Sandow when he first started his run with WWE had the gimmick of an educator sort of like the Genius Lanny Poffo was in the 80’s. Believe it or not though Damien made it work and it started getting over with the fans as lame as the gimmick was. He went on to win the Money In The Bank Match in 2013. After he won the Money In the Bank it appeared his career was taking off until he cashed in his Money In The Bank on Monday Night Raw against John Cena and was beat pretty easily (Made Damien Look Bad).

After it looked like his career was going down the drain, they put him in a tag team with Curtis Axel and they acted like Hulk Hogan and The Macho Man. It shouldn’t have got over but it got over some how and the fans loved it. Hulk Hogan was in the news for saying the “N Word” and that was the end of that gimmick.

The last gimmick he was in was the Miz’s Stunt Double. Again it shouldn’t have got over but Damien made it work again. The guy had all the makings of a great WWE Superstar and could get a broom stick over so what happened to his WWE career. Listen in as Stonecold and Vince Russo elaborate.

Superstar Billy Graham Shoots On Bob Backlund

Published by:

Before there was the Hulk Hogan’s and Jesse Ventura’s in the world of wrestling, there was Superstar Billy Graham. Superstar was one of the most copied wrestlers ever and he was way ahead of his time. Without him  you would never have had Hulk Hogan’s persona of the 27 inch pythons, the bandanna’s and later on his career the feather boa, and of course is emphasis on the word “brother”. Graham rose to the top of professional wrestling by beating one of the greatest champions of all time for the belt, The Living Legend Bruno Sammartino.

Superstar continued to do what Bruno did before him and that was have sell out crowds and legendary matches. Superstar was a heel though and the people where paying to see him get beat, although later in his title run the fans where starting to cheer for him more and more. After having the title for a little more than a year, WWWF owner Vince Mcmahon Sr. decided he wanted to put the belt on a more wholesome and All American Bob Backlund. So a year into to his title reign Bob Backlund beat Superstar Billy Graham on February 20th, 1978 for the WWWF title and held that title for over 5 years until Iron Sheik beat him in 1983.

In this interview with Hannibal TV Superstar Billy Graham gives his honest opinion of Bob Backlund. He talks about when Vince decided he was going to take the title off of him. He also discusses what Bruno Sammartino thought of the title change and more. It’s an interesting excerpt from a good interview. Let us know what you think below.

Jim Ross Shoots On Dean Ambrose Being World Champion

Published by:

Even though Jim has been out of the WWE for quit some time, he still is in tune with the product and watches it weekly. Not only was the color commentator if not the greatest color commentator the sport has ever seen he also has a mind for the business. If anyone besides Vince Mcmahon could run a wrestling company I believe it would be Jim Ross.

Recently in the WWE it has undergone some huge changes within a small amount of time. There champion Roman Reigns was dethroned of his WWE title at “Money In The Bank” by Seth Rollins. He was beat cleanly by the heel. Then as Seth was celebrating. The Money in The Bank Winner Dean Ambrose came out and cashed in his contract for a WWE title match and he won. All three members of the Shield was WWE champion in the same night.

Even though Dean is over with the fans, he has had some set backs this year. His match with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania poorly booked him and even though Brock should’ve won the match it shouldn’t have been so much of a squash match. It made Dean look very weak.

With that behind him though he is now the current face of the WWE product. Good Ol’ Jr gives his thoughts on Dean Ambrose and if he should be WWE Champion. He also talks about WWE booking and if it was a wise ideal to put the title on Ambrose. It’s an interesting interview that if you get a chance you should listen to below.

The Godfather Shoot On The Ultimate Warrior, Triple H and The Rock

Published by:

Charles Wright or as he is formly known “The Godfather” had a few gimmics before The Godfather one stuck. His first major gimmick in the WWF was Papa Shango, Shango was a voodoo doctor who could cast spells and make people sick. Shortly after his debut as Shango Wright was thrown into the main event spotlight with Sid Vicious, Hulk Hogan, and The Ultimate Warrior. As Shango interferred in the Sid Vicious vs. Hulk Hogan match at Wrestlemania 8 (I might add that Shango messed up and came to the ring too late). So there began his feud with the legendary and late Ultimate Warrior.

After the Papa Shango character didn’t get over, Charles was transformed into a prize figher or a ultimate fighter by the name of Kama. Kama when he first was introduced was apart of Ted Dibasese’s faction, his main feud at this time was with the Undertaker. After that Kama disappeared from WWF .

Around 1997 Kama reappeared again using the name Kama Mustafa and was put into the Nation of Domination along side Rocky Mavia, Mark Henry, D’Lo Brown among others. Around this time Rocky Mavia started using the name The Rock. Kama started being referred to as “The Godfather” of the Nation of Domination. They feuded with other factions in the WWF. Among those factions was Degeneration X.  Degeneration X was lead by none other than a up and coming Triple H.

So Charles has wrestled along side some big names in wrestling and he was there to watch them catapult into success. In this interview he was asked about The Ultimate Warrior, Rock, and Triple H and what he saw in them. It’s an interesting interview from The Godfather. Let us know what you think.

Kevin Nash Shoots On Working With Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart

Published by:

Kevin Nash is one of the greatest big men in the history of wrestling. Kevin rose to fame in the World Wrestling Federation has Big Daddy Cool Diesel. After a short time in the Federation Diesel went on to became a the IC Champ and then a short time later he won the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship from Bob Backlund in a house show (the last time the WWF title changed hands in a dark match). He was apart of a well known backstage group known as the kliq with Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman. The kliq called the shots in WWF from what various sources said.

During Kevin’s run in the WWF he wrestled with and along side both Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. Both Michaels and Hart are known as WWE/F ‘s greatest wrestlers ever. The two men where very competitive with each other. Often feuding backstage and it’s even said that the two fist fought in the back before. In one of the greatest real life shoots in professional wrestling, Shawn Michaels beat Bret Hart in what’s now known as the Montreal Screwjob when Bret was leaving for WCW.

In this interview Kevin talks about Shawn and Bret and what it was like working with both. Keep in mind though Kevin is still one of Shawn’s best friends so the view might be kinda skewed. But still he trys to give an honest look at both men’s careers. Let us know what you think below.

Mean Gene Okerlund Shoots On Leaving WWF For WCW

Published by:

One name that comes to mind when you mention interviewer’s and announcers in WCW/WWF is Mean Gene Okerlund. Gene has been around for some of the most history making spots in pro wrestling. Gene was there the day Hulk Hogan won the WWF world heavyweight title. Gene was also there with a mic the day Hulk Hogan turned his back on the fans and joined the NWO. It’s not to often an interviewer is just as much part of the interview as the interviewee but Gene is that Man.

After his career in the AWA in the early 80’s Gene went on to join the World Wrestling Federation. Gene spent the next ten years in the federation interviewing and announcing some of the biggest names in pro wrestling history. In the early nineties though Gene just quit appearing on WWF television and one day just popped up on WWF’s competition television, WCW.  It’s not been really mentioned what happened between Vince Mcmahon, WWF, and Mean Gene. No one knew if Gene was fired, quit, or his contract just wasn’t renewed.

In this shoot Gene discusses everything that happened between him and Vince during that time. He discusses if he has a good relationship with Mcmahon. He also discusses how he left WWF. What it was like working in WCW. He also talks about what it was like working for Eric Bischoff and much more. It really is an insightful view of what it was like during the early ninties for Mean Gene and his transition from WWF to WCW.

Jim Cornette Shoots On Shinsuke Nakamura

Published by:

“The King Of Strong Style” Shinsuke Nakamura is the new face in NXT. Shinsuke is not new to wrestling though, in Japan at only the age of 36 he is already considered a legend and one of their greats. He has won the IWGP Heavyweight title twice, and he has been an IWGP Intercontinental Champion and a tag team champion on occasion. The IWGP title is the most prestgious wrestling title there is in Japan. To say that this guy does not bring a background full of greatness is an understatement.

Now that he is in NXT, he has already made a huge impact. In his first match in WWE’s minor league promotion (if you ask me, its best promotion). He took on the “Face of NXT” Sami Zayn. In one of the more memorable matches in the past few years, Shinsuke went on to defeat Sami in an instant classic. Now with a few wins under his belt and a promised match with the NXT Champion, Shinsuke is scheduled for a match with former NXT champ Finn Baylor.

Recently on the Ross Report, Jim Ross sat down with the king of shoots in my opinion Jim Cornette. Jim gives his thoughts on Shinsuke in the NXT. He also tells what he thinks will happen once Nakamura gets called up to the main roster. To give you a hint, Jim is not so sure that Vince will know what to do with “The King of Strong Style”. It’s a good shoot, let us know what you think.

Steve Austin Shoots On Roman Reigns and Why He Can’t Get Over

Published by:

Recently on Stonecold Steve Austin’s podcast him and Wade Keller talked about  Roman getting over in WWE. Steve Austin happens to be one of the most “over” WWE superstars of all time. When it comes to knowing how to get over or what it takes to get over he would be the go to guy. Wade Keller is a professional wrestling columnist so he is basically a walking pro wreslting encyclopedia he is easily an expert in the professional wrestling field.

Roman Reigns has been a professional wrestler for only a few short years. He has actually only been on the main rooster for 4 of those years. So he is still growing and learning who and what he is in the ring. While doing so he has also been pushed to the top of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand. They are trying to make him their next John Cena. While doing so though he has come across as being forced and fake. A lot of the smart wrestling fans and the internet wrestling community are totally against the Roman Reigns push. A lot of just passing fans do not like him either, he has not found a way to connect with them.

In this excerpt from Steve’s podcast him and Wade Keller go over why Roman is not getting over and what it would take to get him over. WWE still has a lot of work to do in order to get their chosen one over. Listen in and tell us what you think!
